OCULUS: VENUES VR SAFETY

THE NEED

Oculus Venues is a social platform that is for group experiences. With the release of Oculus Venues, Facebook and Oculus needed a safety video that kindly reminded everyone how to create a pleasant experience together, how to clean and maintain the product, and to stay safe while diving into VR.

THE CONCEPT

With the video being informative, we wanted to make sure that the health and safety reminders were seen and heard, as they’re all very important! Simple and sweet storytelling was the foundation. With that, a bright and friendly host was how we wanted to pinpoint best practices. Drawing from established aesthetics, we dove into charming characters in situations for viewers to light-heartedly connect with. Entertaining interactions, bright colors, and beautiful design all help capture viewers and gently reinforce the kind reminders.

MY ROLE

Having worked on earlier health and safety asks, I was familiar with the project and the client’s needs. I art directed the piece and managed the creative team throughout. The process started with working with a writer and a storyboard artist. I directed the design and animation teams. I collaborated with external vendors like the music studio. In addition, I cast and directed the voice-over artist to capture the correct friendly and informative tone for the host character in the piece. The visuals were held to a high standard, as they needed to be on-brand and tastefully geometric.

AT THE END

We crafted a bright and enticing safety video that is short, sweet, and helpful. The piece was 2 dimensional but dynamic with fluid transitions and rotations. The character interactions were important yet memorable, and the host carried an upbeat tone. With how delightful the piece was, we highlighted health and safety tips and hoped viewers wouldn’t mind watching the video over and over again.
