POWER OF PLUS

THE AIM

In North Carolina, WakeMed and Duke Health joined forces to research and fight heart disease. As a result, Variable and We Are Royale teamed up to brain storm and tell the story of WakeMed and Duke Health’s efforts, called Heart Care Plus+. 

THE MAIN IDEA

An equal amount of contribution from both WakeMed and Duke Health was the foundation of the heart care initiative. We reinforced this by showcasing objects that come together to create a positive result. Visually it made sense to mix mediums and styles to follow the same idea and tell the same narrative. Paper craft, 3D, animated illustrations, and live-action all came together to share one message: Plus is more.

WHAT I DID

Beginning with early style frames, I created concepts, designed, and set the visual tone. While leading the team and collaborating with Variable, my role was to art direct designs, animations, 3D elements, and the compositing process. Keeping an eye on quality control, I made sure that the team utilized colors within the palette and married the various mediums together seamlessly. For paper craft, I had the opportunity to work closely with a talented artist and friend, Belinda Rodriguez. To prepare for the shoot, I selected props that we’d use. On set, I live-action art directed as we set the carefully crafted paper sculptures up.

IN CONCLUSION

Watering a seed, a peanut butter jelly sandwich, and the proper tools to conquer a mountain were used to reaveal that DukeHealth uniting with Wakemed was powerful for heart care. The final pieces and process were amazing. I collaborated with a very wide range of artists and lived out a dream to create animation involving paper craft. The expansive creative treatment and the important Heart Care Plus+ initiative made the project extra enjoyable.
